Andrea Jean McLean (born 5 October 1969) is a Scottish journalist and former ITV Daytime presenter.
From 1997 to 2008, McLean was a weather presenter for GMTV, and from 2007 until 2020, she was a co-host on ITV’s daytime chat show Loose Women. McLean and her sister were reared in Trinidad and Tobago, despite being born in Glasgow, Scotland. When she was 15, her family returned to Scotland, but she eventually lived in Market Harborough, Leicestershire, where she completed her schooling at Robert Smyth grammar school.
On her father’s side, Mclean is descended from Russian Jews who came to Scotland to avoid persecution.Mclean has indicated that she has always been aware of her Jewish history, but that her family is no longer religiously Jewish.
She then went to Cairns, Australia, for a gap year. McLean began her career as a freelance travel journalist in 1993. She began working for Central Press Features in May 1994, and in 1995, she was promoted to Production Editor. McLean joined The Weather Channel as a weather reporter for Talk Radio in June 1996. She worked as one of the panellists on Channel 5’s daily chat show Espresso in 1997.
McLean joined GMTV as a weather presenter in June 1997. She co-presented GMTV Today with Ben Shephard and Eamonn Holmes, and in Lorraine Kelly’s absence, she hosted LK Today. Her bright demeanour and journalistic training caught the eye of producers, and she went on to host shows like the first series of Our House for UKTV Style and as a guest panellist on ITV’s Loose Women. McLean was replaced as GMTV weather presenter by BBC’s Kirsty McCabe after she announced her decision to depart in November 2008. On December 31, 2008, McLean gave her final broadcast, which included a special tribute to her tenure at GMTV.
McLean competed in ITV’s ice-skating programme Dancing on Ice in January 2006. She was eliminated in the third week after partnering with professional skater Doug Webster For the rest of the show’s existence, McLean and fellow ex-contestant Andi Peters hosted the weekday fan show Dancing on Ice Extra.
When Jackie Brambles went on maternity leave, McLean stood in for her on Loose Women. McLean said in July 2008 that she will leave GMTV to focus on her career on Loose Women, sharing the permanent presenter job with Brambles. When the show returned for its 10th anniversary on September 1, 2009, Brambles left the show, and Kate Thornton took her position as the new anchor, sharing the duty with McLean. Carol Vorderman took over for Thornton in 2011. Kaye Adams joined the show as an anchor in 2013, and Ruth Langsford returned in January 2014. Vorderman confirmed her resignation from Loose Women in July 2014. 2 or 3 days a week, McLean continued to co-anchor Loose Women. The other anchors are Langsford and Christine Lampard. McLean announced her departure from the show after 13 years on November 30, 2020, to explore other interests. She left the show on December 16, 2020.
McLean was one of the panellists on ITV’s afternoon debate show 3@Three in August 2010. McLean competed in the BBC One gymnastics series Tumble in August 2014, partnering with professional gymnast Alex Uttley and she was the first celebrity to be eliminated on August 16th. McLean and her husband Nick Feeney created their own website, This Girl Is On Fire, in June 2018.
