Andrew Dennis Biersack (born December 26, 1990) is an American singer, songwriter, and pianist who used to go by the stage name Andy Six. He is the lone original member of the rock band Black Veil Brides, as well as its founder and lead vocalist. He began a solo music project under the alias Andy Black in May 2014, and his debut album, the Shadow Side, was published in 2016. Biersack was born to Chris and Amy Biersack in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Biersack received his early schooling at a Catholic elementary school, something he has mentioned in numerous interviews. Jamie Peters, his preschool teacher, had a huge influence on his inventiveness. Andy was bullied at school because of the way he dressed and the music he listened to (i.e. Kiss, The Misfits, Avenged Sevenfold, The Damned, The Dropkick Murphys, etc.). This bullying is depicted in the music video “Knives and Pens”by his band, Black Veil Brides.

Biersack majored in acting and vocal music in high school at Cincinnati’s School for Creative and Performing Arts. He dropped out of school two days after turning 18 to move to Los Angeles in the hopes of advancing his profession.
Andy Biersack and a few mates created their first band, “Biersack,” when they were 14 years old (although they only played one show). This project eventually became known as Black Veil Brides.

Black Veil Brides joined with the independent label StandBy Records in September 2009.The planning for a tour and a record began almost immediately. They launched their first music video for “Knives and Pens” in 2009, which has received over 200 million views to date. On Leather Wings, the band embarked on their first US tour. We Stitch These Wounds, their debut album, was released on July 20, 2010, and it debuted at No.

1 on the Billboard Independent chart, selling over 13,000 copies in its first week. Set the World on Fire, the band’s second studio album, was released on June 14, 2011 by Lava Music/Universal Republic Records. Wretched and Divine: The Story of the Wild Ones, the band’s third album, was released on January 8, 2013.  On October 27, 2014, they released their fourth self-titled album. Vale, their fifth studio album, was released on January 12, 2018.
Biersack announced to Kerrang! magazine in May 2014 that he had been working on new music under the name ‘Andy Black’ outside of Black Veil Brides.

He added that his solo project will have a completely different sound than the band, and that he felt he couldn’t achieve that sound within the band, so he decided to go solo. Andy was inspired by his love of ’80s synth and goth music for this project. He’ll be collaborating with John Feldmann, the former producer of Black Veil Brides. Despite this initiative, he told his admirers that it is not his primary priority, but rather a hobby or side project.On May 19, 2014, he released his first song, “They Don’t Need to Understand,” which was accompanied by a music video on Hot Topic.

Biersack announced the title of his debut Andy Black album, The Shadow Side, on March 17, 2016, with a release date of May 6, 2016. The project’s premiere single, “We Don’t Have to Dance,” was released on March 18, 2016, along with a music video for the song on March 21.

Biersack announced his second album, The Ghost of Ohio, on February 15, 2019, and it was released on April 12, 2019. Westwood Road, the album’s lead single, was released on the same day.He briefly dabbled in acting after relocating to Los Angeles. He appeared in the AT&T advertisement “Confetti” and in the Montana Meth commercial “Jumped” for a 30-second spot. Biersack appears as a guest star on YouTube’s Funny or Die video series Average Joe. He also starred in Legion of the Black, a full-length feature film by Black Veil Brides that was released on January 6, 2013, to promote the band’s third album.

Biersack was cast as Johnny Faust in the independent supernatural horror film American Satan opposite Asking Alexandria member Ben Bruce in February 2016.Sumerian Records founder Ash Avildsen directed the film, which was released on October 13, 2017.
