Danny Trejo Bio

Danny Trejo is an actor from the United States. He was born on May 16, 1944.Trejo’s cinematic career began in the 1980s, when he earned an unintentional role as a boxer in the American independent film Runaway Train, for which he was paid 320 dollars per day. He went on to star in a number of other films, including Desperado (1995), From Dusk till Dawn (1996), Con Air (1997), From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money (1999), From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman’s Daughter (1999), Reindeer Games (2000), Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004), Wake Up, Ron Burgundy: The Lost Movie (2004), Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy: The Lost Movie (2004), (2007).

He portrayed the character of Isador “Machete” Cortez, which was created for the Spy Kids series (2001–11), alongside regular collaborator and his 2nd cousin Robert Rodriguez. Later, the property was extended into its own brand. Trejo was born to Mexican-American parents on Temple Street in Los Angeles’ Echo Park area on May 16, 1944.

He is the son of Delores Rivera King and construction worker Dionisio “Dan” Trejo (1922–1981) Trejo was the consequence of an adulterous romance while Delores’ husband was serving in the military during WWII. In 1943, his parents met in a Highland Park dance hall in Los Angeles. He had a maternal half-sister named Dyhan, but he didn’t see her or Delores until he was three and a half years old, when his father forbade his mother from visiting him after Trejo hurt his arm in her care.

Trejo’s father had a habit of abusing him. Trejo and his family moved to San Antonio, Texas, shortly after his birth, after fleeing Los Angeles due to Dionisio’s arrest for stabbing another man. Trejo’s father turned himself in after they returned to Los Angeles after a year. Trejo shared a room at their grandmother’s house with his cousins by 1949.  When he lived with his father, his stepmother, Alice Mendias, was “his only source of comfort.”

Trejo began using marijuana, heroin, and cocaine when he was eight years old, and continued to do so until he was twelve years old.  Trejo’s uncle Gilbert was the one who exposed him to all three and was also responsible for Trejo’s first heroin overdose.  He relocated to the varied community of Pacoima, Los Angeles, when he was 13 years old, and he claims to have never experienced prejudice there. Years later, he bought the house where he grew up and lived there frequently. Trejo made his first drug trade at the age of seven.

He was arrested for the first time when he was ten years old, but his first confinement was in 1956 at Eastlake Juvenile Hall. Trejo’s life in the 1960s was primarily made up of spells in California’s prison system.However, the accounts of his prison chronology are notably contradictory; according to one account, Trejo’s final term in custody ended in 1972, but in reality, Trejo spent time in various juvenile offenders’ camps, including three years at Camp Glenn Rockey, San Dimas for maiming a sailor (stabbing him in the face with broken glass),followed by numerous California prisons between 1959 and 1969;

He encountered Charles Manson, a “dirty, greasy, scrawny, white guy” who was reputedly a good hypnotist, while serving a sentence in the Los Angeles County jail in 1961.Trejo was sentenced to San Quentin State Prison in 1966, and his heroin addiction quickly became worse. He was also a debt collector and a drug dealer, and he was frequently involved in or seeing violent actions, including murder.

Simultaneously, he concentrated on boxing, becoming a lightweight and welterweight champion at San Quentin. Trejo has claimed that his physical appearance plays a role in his frequent involvement in criminal activity. During Cinco de Mayo in 1968, a prison uprising at Soledad erupted. After assaulting a guard with a rock, Trejo was placed in solitary confinement and faces capital charges, which might lead to the death penalty. Trejo found faith in solitude.

and joined a 12-step programme after attending one “by mistake” when he was 15, successfully overcoming his drug addictions, recalling in 2011 that he had been sober for 42 years. He completed his high school graduation while incarcerated as well.Trejo was finally freed from prison in July 1969 and returned to Pacoima, Los Angeles, after serving five years of a ten-year sentence.Trejo worked as a labour foreman for developer Saul Pick and helped build the Cinerama Dome prior to his film career.

He has also worked as a landscaper and salesperson, as well as being a substance abuse counsellor since 1973. Trejo helped Western Pacific Med Corp build and operate sober living facilities in the San Fernando Valley in the 1980s. During a visit in one of these houses, he met a “good-looking tattooed boy” who told him he worked as a film extra and was paid $50 per day to stand there.

Trejo was intrigued and pondered working as a film extra, at first because of the easy money and attention it would provide for his work with Western Pacific Med Corp. Trejo joined with an agent and would give out his contact information while on set, hoping to discover more opportunities to aid individuals in need.

Trejo received a call late one night from a teen patient on the set of Runaway Train, asking for his help in coping with cocaine addiction (1985) By 1990, Trejo had already appeared in a dozen films, including Death Wish 4: The Crackdown and Marked for Death. Although he enjoyed working on Guns, he claims Erik Estrada objected to the cast and crew knowing more about Trejo than he did.

Estrada’s ego, according to Trejo, got the better of him, and he arranged for Trejo and a group of others to fly coach instead of first class to Hawaii for filming. He was first offered the role of Pedro Santana in American Me by Edward James Olmos in 1991.The storyline and Trejo’s first meeting with Olmos did not impress him. Within the Mexican Mafia, allegations began to circulate that the script was taking liberties with the storey.

Trejo received a call from Joe ‘Peg Leg’ Morgan, the then-living don of the Mexican Mafia, before he could attend a second meeting with Olmos; Morgan approved of Trejo’s decision to cast himself in Blood In, Blood Out rather than American Me.  Trejo claimed in 2021 that Olmos still hasn’t accepted him as a serious performer. He acquired Hepatitis C after finishing Reindeer Games in 1999 and “had to haul [his] ass” from Canada to Austin, Texas to start filming Spy Kids in 2000.

Trejo made his acting debut as Isador ‘Machete’ Cortez in the film Spy Kids. After collaborating with Robert Rodriguez, Antonio Banderas, and Cheech Marin on Desperado (1995) and From Dusk Till Dawn (1996), the chance to work with them again “felt like family reunion.” Trejo gained worldwide fame as a result of Spy Kids, and for the first time, he was “immediately recognisable” by youngsters all over the world.

His condition had deteriorated to the point where much of the cast noticed his weight loss by the time of Bubble Boy in 2001; Trejo claims that his previous drug use had caught up with him. He characterised himself as pale and feeble throughout the shoot, and he said he was preoccupied with keeping his condition hidden from Hollywood for fear of retaliation. Due to prescription medication, Trejo was “out of it” and had trouble remembering his lines.

Trejo had healed completely by the time Spy Kids debuted in September 2002. Trejo has stated about his continuing development as a professional actor, “I’ve been extremely fortunate in my life. I’m still terrified that someone would wake me up and tell me, “Hey, we’re still in prison.” Let’s go to a restaurant and eat.’ “,  Trejo also appeared in a promo for Rodriguez’s film Grindhouse, which he co-wrote with Quentin Tarantino. In 2010, he acted in the full-length film Machete, based on the figure Isador ‘Machete’ Cortez, and he reprised his role in Machete Kills in 2013.

In 2011, he starred alongside WWE wrestler Steve Austin in the action film Recoil as Drayke Selgado, and in the film Cross as the Ripper.Trejo appeared in Craig Moss’ action picture Bad Ass in 2012, opposite Ron Perlman and Charles S. Dutton (2012). He was modelled on 67-year-old “Epic Beard Man” Thomas Bruso for the role of Vietnam veteran Frank Vega.

Trejo appears in season four of the FX television show Sons of Anarchy alongside Ron Perlman in a supporting role as Romero ‘Romeo’ Parada. He was quoted as saying on the incident, ” “Everything positive that has happened to me has been a direct outcome of assisting others. Everything.”

Trejo has a distinct look. He has displayed the enormous tattoo on his chest (depicting a lady – a Charra wearing a sombrero) for several roles, in addition to his highly lined face, scarred by cystic acne and boxing brawls, and the long hair and moustache he generally sports.

Trejo encountered Mario Castillo, a prisoner suffering from drug addiction, during the filming of Blood In, Blood Out at San Quentin.
