Additionally, Kinney has appeared on several other television programmes, such as The CW’s The Flash and Arrow and Showtime’s highly regarded Masters of Sex.  Alongside Hayley Atwell, she co-starred in the ABC series Conviction in 2016. The parents of Kinney are Vaughn Charles and Jeanne. Kinney was born in Lancaster, Nebraska. During her childhood, she and her family often relocated to places like Nevada, Oregon, and various regions of Nebraska.3 For one semester, Kinney studied at New York University.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts in theatre from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 2006. After that, Kinney relocated to New York to seek an acting and Broadway career. Kinney met individuals in the acting and music industries while working at coffee cafes. 7 During her four years at college, she participated in 20 plays.  She started her professional acting career at 21 years old after being chosen for the play Spring Awakening. as the young German schoolgirl Anna.

The drama August: Osage County featured Kinney as Jean Fordham the next year. She was then chosen to play Emily on The Big C on Showtime. Later, Kinney guest featured as Jeannie Richmonds on NBC’s Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Gina, played by Kinney in her first picture, was played by Aunt Tigress.

Kinney proceeded to perform in a range of cameo and recurrent guest parts in several movies and television programmes. In Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Kinney made a triumphant comeback to the Law & Order series as Haley Cole. [6] In 2013, she released her second EP, Expired Love. In 2014, it was re-released with two more songs. Kinney discusses the background of the album in an interview with AMC: “‘Expired Love’ is the narrative of myself. But I do believe that because of my acting job, a lot of my style bleeds into it. In that they are brief tales, my songs are like Tom Waits’. Sometimes I build a song on a phrase or emotion that keeps coming to me.

And I do believe that it can’t help but permeate everything since I’ve never played a role for so long. It seems possible that this is the reason why I keep having a certain thought because this is a subject that comes up often on the programme!” The Walking Dead, an AMC television horror-thriller, recruited Kinney in 2011 to play Beth Greene. Despite being 25 at the time of the filming, her character Beth played the sister of Maggie who was 16 in Season 2.

After serving as a series regular for two years, Kinney received a promotion. Greene is a member of a small group of survivors that must contend with other humans who are much more dangerous than the zombies in order to survive a zombie apocalypse. On “The Parting Glass” from The Walking Dead: Original Soundtrack, she collaborated with Lauren Cohan. She released her second EP, Expired Love, in 2013. It was re-released in 2014 with two more tracks. In an interview with AMC, Kinney talks about the album’s subject matter: “‘Expired Love’ is about my trip.” But my acting approach has been consistent throughout my whole career. Like Tom Waits, I tell little tales in my songs. I sometimes write songs based on a single word or feeling that keeps replaying in my thoughts. And since I’ve never played a character for so long, it will ultimately seep into everything. Maybe that’s why a certain idea keeps coming to me since it’s something the programme deals with!”
