Tig Notaro was born 24 March 1971 ,Jackson, Mississippi, and reared by her single mother in Pass Christian, Mississippi. She recalls how her artistic and free-spirited mother would prepare all three meals at the same time, then spray down their diapered bodies in highchairs to save time on cooking and cleaning, allowing her more time to paint donkeys on the outside of their house on hot summer days. The family eventually relocated to Texas, where they were welcomed by a new father who offered stability and, sadly, a home that did not have donkeys painted on its walls.
While completing his sentence in a Texas high school, Tig failed three classes by entertaining his peers rather than considering the thought of having a successful academic career in the classroom. She made the decision to drop out of school in the ninth grade and relocate to Denver, Colorado, where she temporarily worked in the music industry before relocating to Los Angeles to establish herself solidly in the world of comedy.
