Drew Starkey Bio

Drew Starkey is an actor from the United States. series Scream: Resurrection. Starkey went to Hickory, North Carolina’s St. Stephens High School and Western Carolina University. Working alongside a creative team who is totally committed to bringing a narrative, its setting, and its characters to life, whether on stage or screen, is one of Drew Starkey’s favourite aspects of being an actor. It’s one of the reasons Outer Banks has become the show of 2020, and Drew as the wicked Rafe is a scene-stealer.

Drew spoke with Pop-Culturalist about his start in the profession, Outer Banks, and where he wants his character to go in Season 2. How did you become interested in the arts? Drew: I started doing theatre when I was about nine or 10 years old. My family is quite musical. Grandpa had a career as an opera singer. In the late 1950s, he appeared on Broadway. In Asheville, North Carolina, my uncle founded an opera house. We used to go to the theatre as a family, so I did it as a youngster with school play and some community theatre. I suppose it was in high school theatre class with Molly Rice, my theatre teacher, that I really started to develop a taste for it. That’s where I believe it began.

Who or what has had the most impact on your professional life? Wow! Acting-wise, I’d say it’s always changing. Constantly. But, more recently, Philip Seymour Hoffman is one of those performers who I always like because he came from the theatre, and his ability to play a wide range of characters on stage and in films is something I admire.

You, too, have had a lot of success early in your career. Is there a specific moment that comes to mind as you think back? I’m not sure if there’s a specific time. In terms of—this isn’t even a professional career moment for me. It happened when I was in college, I believe. Western Carolina University was where I studied theatre and English. Jesse Allard and Cory Phelps, two of my friends, funded, produced, wrote, and directed their own short film, and I got to be a part of it. That was the first time I had the opportunity to work on a film or piece of art with a group of friends who were all passionate about it. It’s still one of the most enjoyable projects I’ve ever worked on. It was a glimpse into what I believe are the positive aspects of this profession. That experience in senior year was unquestionably a notch in the ladder.

You’re a member of the cast of Outer Banks, which has become a smash hit in the year 2020. What do you believe is the most popular among audiences? That is an excellent question. It’s perplexing. I was just chatting to someone about this the other day, and I’m not sure if it’s true or not, but I believe the show aired at an odd time for a lot of people throughout the world. Escapism at its finest. It is, in fact. People, I believe, are yearning for the experience of being around people they care about, as well as being outside and experiencing life. It is causing a lot of individuals to live vicariously via it. It’s a little nostalgic and a little escapism.

What was your character’s first description? How far ahead of time did you see his plot going? So I had originally auditioned for John B. I taped it and mailed it in. “He’s dreadful for this part,” casting said after seeing it. He isn’t it in the least.” [laughing] “However, we have another function for which we believe he is qualified.” They flew me to Charleston, South Carolina, where I had a director’s meeting with Jonas [Pate], Shannon [Burke], and a large group of individuals. His daughter is Lilah Pate. Throughout the casting process, she sought his advice.

That audition was scheduled for me. As a result of that and the sides I received, I was aware of him. Apart from that, there isn’t much else to say. I received a couple episodes emailed to me, but I believe the show only had three episodes written. The section was reserved for me. Within the next several days, one of the writers, Shannon Burke, approached me and said, “Hey, so this is the route we’re going to be taking your character.” “Wow,” I thought. That appears to be a lot of fun.” I believe there were just four episodes written, but they had plotted out where Rafe was headed and what role he would play in the storey.
