James Patrick is a former professional ice hockey player and current coach from Canada. He was born on June 14, 1963, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Patrick played as a defenseman during his career.

Patrick started his hockey journey in the Western Hockey League (WHL), playing for the Prince Albert Raiders. He was really good in junior hockey and was chosen by the New York Rangers as the ninth overall pick in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft.

In the NHL, Patrick played for three teams. He spent most of his career with the New York Rangers from 1983 to 1993. He was known for being a solid defenseman who could also contribute offensively. Patrick was a leader on the ice and helped the Rangers in many ways.

After his time with the Rangers, Patrick joined the Hartford Whalers (now called the Carolina Hurricanes) from 1993 to 1996. He continued to be a strong player and brought experience to the team.
